It starts with applying for an NIE number, followed by empadronamiento (town hall registration) and residencia. You also need to sort insurance, banking and possibly your car. We build a personal step plan based on your situation.

A NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is your unique foreigner identification number in Spain. You need it for nearly every official action: opening a bank account, buying property, registering a car, etc.

You become a tax resident once you spend more than 183 days a year in Spain. If you intend to stay permanently, you must apply for residencia within 3 months of arrival.

Yes, you can. You'll need an NIE number and a Spanish bank account. Costs are slightly higher for non-residents (10% transfer tax vs. 6-10% for residents, depending on the region).

Yes. Within 6 months of settling you must register your car on Spanish plates. This includes deregistration at the RDW, an ITV inspection (the Spanish MOT) and registration with the DGT.
